Evolve Youth Awards Nov-Dec 2026

Dear Parents and Guardians

We have 5 groups and children are divided based on ability. It is at the coaches discretion to move a child to another group, if it benefits the child, taking into account their learning and safety.

Please select the group that you see fits the most, you can always discuss this with an Evolve Youth Awards Coach. The groups are as follows:

Balance - A game based course designed to teach balance and how to pedal.

Balance+ - For riders who have just learned to pedal. The focus is on becoming steady and confident on the bike. Riders will learn the correct way to set off and pedal, ride in a straight line, and stay stable whilst cycling slowly. They will work on braking effectively, mounting and dismounting, and following a simple course. By the end, riders should have the skills to circle a 400m track safely a couple of times.

Pedal - For riders who are steady, pedal confidently and are ready to build their skills. They should already be able to brake well, handle their bike and ride around the track several times safely. In this group they'll sharpen their braking, learn to corner with control and build their observation skills (looking around and spotting what's ahead). They'll also learn one-handed riding, using gears, riding out of the saddle and riding in a group. As gears are part of what we teach, a bike with gears is ideal.

Rider Challenge - Riders in this group should be familiar with using a road bike and be able to confidently ride one handed, use their gears effectively and corner using the correct techniques. Riders will be perfecting ascending and descending hills with gears, how to corner in a race and other techniques such as moving mount.

Advanced - Riders will be racing, can be confidently riding with no hands, using sprinting and racing techniques and more.
